RESEARCH ASSOCIATE in atmospheric dynamics and modelling


The positionin accordance with Section28 subsection3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG)commences on 1 July 2019 or as soon as possible af-ter this date.

This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section2 of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of3 years.The position calls for 39 hours per week.


Duties primarily include teaching and research. Research associates mayalso pursue independ-ent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

The successful candidate will join the theoretical meteorology group to work onmodelling thelarge-scale dynamicsand predictability. The successful application will combine noveldiagnostic methodsand numerical models of different complexity to analyze spatio-temporal variability of the climate system. Theposition includes 4teaching hoursper week.


A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate.The PhD degree can be in atmospheric science, physical oceanography, physics, applied mathematics or a related field. Candidates are expected to havean appropriate track record of communicating research results, strong compu-tational skills, and a high level of independence and creativity.
