The position in accordance with Section28subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG)commences on 1September2019or earlier.


This is a fixed-term contract in accordancewithSection2 of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term isfixed for a period of 3 years. The position calls for 26 hours per week.


Responsibilities:


Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates mayalso pur-sue independent research and further academic qualifications.


Specific duties:


The Cluster of Excellence “Quantum Universe” performs research to understand massandgrav-ity at the interface between quantum physics and cosmology. The research team includeslead-ing scientists from mathematics, particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology at UniversitätHamburg and DESY.


The successful candidate will participate in the development of multi-dimensional reconstruc-tion methods in liquid scintillator detectors that are used in neutrino experiments.The emphasis will be on the transfer of our current algorithms to other applications (for example in high-en-ergy physics or imaging applications). This can include studies regarding the potential of small stand-alone liquid scintillator cells with fast readout systems or the application in a new neu-trino experiment.


 

Doctoral research associates will become membersof the Quantum Universe research school (QURS) and through this receive offers for academic training, soft skills, and career planning. In addition, they will receive individual budgets, meant to enable them to attend summer schools, conferences or other educational and supporting measures. Additional travel money for project-specific duties will be made available via the hosting research groups. Doctoral researchassoci-ates may actively participate in the organization of the Cluster via an early career council.


Requirements:


A university degreein a relevant field.Good programming skills in C++.
