The Opportunity


The ARC Centre of Excellence in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies (FLEET) is an international innovator in novel electronics technologies. The centre brings together more than 40 world-leading experts who will apply cutting edge science to develop a new generation of ultra-low power electronic devices.


We are seeking an exemplary Research Fellow to join our FLEET team to develop a platform for measuring the spatial distribution of electron currents in optically modified, atomically thin topological insulators. The platform is based on magnetometry using wide-field detection of nitrogen vacancy centres in diamond films.


The role will be supervised by CI Kristian Helmerson at Monash University, working closely with CI Jeff Davis at Swinburne University of Technology. The key accountabilities are:


  • Undertake experimental research involving magnetometry or magnetic sensing
  • Publishing papers in high-impact journals, present results at major conferences and workshops
  • Assist in the supervision of PhD and honours students in the Centre
  • Attending relevant conferences and seminars

Successful applicant for this role should have:


  • A doctoral qualification in Experimental Physics, Engineering or closely related fields
  • A record of publications in experimental physics, optics, surface science or materials engineering
  • Experience in developing and working on research projects
