For more information see our lab website: Ideally, this individual will be highly experienced in patch clamp electrophysiology and the analysis of neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission. Experience with vertebrate neuronal cell culture is essential. Basic familiarity with molecular biology and gene manipulation in mammalian cells is also essential. Basic familiarity with pharmacology is important. A basic understanding of computer programming is considered a plus. A basic understanding of quantitative light microscopy is also considered a plus.

The individual will be responsible for conducting research in the Davis laboratory on the fundamental principles governing neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission in the mammalian central nervous system. The individual will be responsible for the experimental design and execution of all technical aspects of each task.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period.

Required qualifications-

  • Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a PhD or equivalent in science with a minimum of 5 years post graduate research experience (with electrophysiological recording and analysis of neuronal and synaptic function in the mammalian nervous system) and demonstrable expertise in the techniques considered essential for this position.
  • Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 5 years of experience in the relevant specialization.
  • Must have multiple years experience with patch clamp electrophysiology.
