Contract: 0.8–1.0 FTE, initially 1 year with a positive evaluation for permanent employment
Salary: €3,382 – €5,057 gross per month (full-time, CAO NU scale 8-9) + 8% holiday pay + 8.3% year-end bonus + pension scheme

Role Summary

Join the FLOW Consortium, a collaborative, interdisciplinary research network across Utrecht, Leiden, Groningen, Enschede, and Nijmegen, focused on protein quality-control networks in human disease, particularly CFTR (loss-of-function) and α-synuclein (gain-of-toxicity).

As a technician, you will:

  • Produce and purify disease-related and quality-control proteins for consortium experiments.

  • Work with bacteria, insect, or mammalian cells.

  • Collaborate with PhD students, postdocs, and PIs across the consortium.

  • Access state-of-the-art infrastructure, including the Utrecht Protein Research Centre.


Key Responsibilities

  • Protein production and purification for consortium-wide experiments.

  • Support biochemical, molecular, and cellular experiments.

  • Collaborate with team members to achieve FLOW’s research objectives.

  • Maintain high laboratory standards and contribute to experimental planning.


Candidate Profile

  • Education: HBO or University degree in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biology Laboratory Research, or equivalent.

  • Technical Skills: Protein production/purification, cloning, gene expression, cell culture; experience with E. coli and mammalian cells preferred.

  • Additional Skills: CRISPR methods, light microscopy, flow cytometry (FACS) advantageous.

  • Work Style: Independent, organized, flexible, and eager to learn.

  • Language: Fluent in English; Dutch desirable (or willingness to learn within 2 years).

  • Teamwork: Collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal skills.
