The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into nine departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1500 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.

Subject description
Lund University GIS Centre at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science is going to employ a researcher for a short period to implement machine learning algorithms for disaster management.

Work duties
Detailed description of the work duties are:

  • Research within the subject area
  • Implementation of algorithms
  • Publishing papers in scientific journals
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Good qualifications in mathematics and Python programming.
  • Basic knowledge about machine learning.
  • Work experience is an advantage.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
The assessment will be done based on the criteria mentioned in the qualifications requirements. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. 

Terms of employment
The employment is full time, 100%, for the period 2020-04-07 until 2020-09-06.
