Researchers in hydrology

Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international standing. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate with society in various ways. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 44,000 students, 7,100 employees and a turnover of SEK 7 billion.

The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden's largest and widest, with about 200 employees. Our research extends from the Earth's core to the atmosphere, from microscopic minerals and fossils to how rocks and oceans are formed, from the time of Earth's birth to today. We map the evolution of the earth and life over several billion years and study the relationship between the atmosphere and the oceans with regard to climate change and sustainable development. For more information see: .

We are now looking for a Researcher in hydrology focusing on uncertainties in hydrological climate impact studies

Job / Project description:

We are now seeking a researcher in hydrology at the Department of Earth Sciences within the program for Air, Water and Landscape Science (Luval). The research service is part of a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council. The aim of the project is to fill existing knowledge gaps in hydrological climate impact studies. We will strengthen the basis for robust simulations of the effects of climate change on future hydrological systems by developing dynamic and multidimensional methods to reduce uncertainty factors. The project is a multidisciplinary collaboration between experts in climatology, hydrology and environmental research. The applicant is expected to collaborate with our project partners.

For this position, a doctoral degree in hydrology, natural geography, meteorology, environmental analysis, climatology or a degree in a related subject area that the employer finds relevant. Applicants must have good knowledge of English, both in speech and in writing. Knowledge in mathematics and physics is a requirement as well as previous experience in programming.

Desirable / other qualifications:

Previous experience of hydrological modeling and of tools for correcting the climate models' output (bias correction) as well as analysis / evaluation of different hydrological model structures and parameterization methods is highly merited. Expertise in Matlab or R is a merit. We also value an independent way of working in combination with a willingness to cooperate with the other research group and other participants in the closely related international research projects.

The application must contain a letter in which the applicant briefly describes the motivation for applying for this service and his / her previous research experience. The application must also include a resume (CV), copies of relevant grading papers, the doctoral thesis, contact information for two reference persons, and other relevant documents. In addition, a brief summary (maximum of 2 pages) should be provided in which you describe what you think are the major uncertainties in hydrological climate impact studies and how to reduce them. We also want to know the earliest possible start date.

Uppsala University values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity add to the business. We therefore like to see applicants of all genders and with different birth backgrounds, functionality and life experience.
