The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 178 fields of study, approx. 9.800 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position as soon as possible of a Senior Lecturer Reference number: 11423 At the Centre for Teacher Education of Vienna University the Austrian Educational Competence Center for Biology Education (AECC Biology) conducts scientific research in the field of teaching and learning of Biology and seeks to fill the position of a Senior Lecturer for Biology Education for the School Subject “Biology and Environmental Education” with either 100% (full-time) or 50% (part-time) of the regular working time (48 VwGr. B1 lit. B, Post-Doc, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, 14 monthly wages) as soon as possible. We pursue innovative, research-, teaching- and developmental projects with practical relevance in a national and international context and contribute to the advancement of Biology education in schools and other learning institutions. Current research foci of our team are the development of students’ scientific inquiry skills, Education for Sustainable Development/Environmental education, professional development of (future) Biology teachers and the effectiveness of informal learning environments. In case of a positive evaluation at the end of the term of employment, the employment contract may be extended for an indefinite period of time. Duration of employment: 4 year/s Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week, which include a teaching assignment of 14 hours scientific classes on average per semester Job Description: As a senior lecturer you will be involved in teaching in the academic discipline of Biology Education (14 SWS/semester within a full position) in the Biology Education modules of the study program "Biologie und Umweltkunde" in the Bachelor and Master of Education program for the both “Sekundarstufen” (teaching degree for all Austrian school types grade 5-13). Within these tasks the successful candidate will be substantially involved in the maintenance and development of the newly established "Teaching and Learning Lab AECC Biology" at the University of Vienna ("Lehr-Lern-Labor AECC Biologie"), that uniquely triangulates teacher education, citizen science and research in the field of Science Education. Furthermore, we expect the successful candidate to participate in research in the field of Biology education and to contribute to scientific publications as well as publications on innovative Biology lessons. Also, we expect the involvement in events for the professional development of teachers.
