Visiting Professor in Physics
New York University Abu Dhabi Division of Science
United States

Description

The Division of Science at NYU Abu Dhabi is searching for accomplished visiting faculty in Physics to educate the next generation of global leaders.  Multidisciplinary research and exceptional teaching in a highly diverse and inclusive campus community are hallmarks of the University’s mission.

NYUAD values diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity; such principles are fundamental to the university's commitment to excellence.  Our faculty are the engines that sustain our inclusive environment; NYUAD students come from more than 115 countries, with no single one nationality exceeding more than 15 percent of the total student population. Likewise, our faculty are highly diverse and community-minded: our modern campus is home to over 320 faculty who represent more than 45 different nationalities, all of whom bring a global perspective to their classrooms and research projects. Research is advanced by over 400 highly qualified research staff, who are likewise drawn from all over the world.

Faculty in the Physics program contribute to the multidisciplinary research at NYU Abu Dhabi, and are currently working with faculty from other programs in areas that include neuroscience, drug discovery and delivery, and computer modeling. Candidates are expected to be outstanding scholars with exceptional productivity in their fields, and to act as inspirational teachers and mentors to undergraduate and graduate students.

The visiting position is typically for one academic year and the expected teaching load is four courses with relatively small class sizes. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to supervise capstone projects on research questions that they propose.

Faculty have access to state-of-the-art core technology platforms that include (1) a fully equipped microscopy facility that houses confocal and stimulated emission depletion (STED) super-resolution microscopes, scanning and transmission electron and atomic force microscopes, and combined confocal Raman atomic force resolution and scanning near-field optical microscopy (AFM SNOM); (2) protein expression and purification facilities; (3) advanced DNA sequencing facilities; (4) equipment for spectroscopic, thermal and chemical analysis, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometers; (5) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI); and (6) high-performance computing facilities with more than 8,000 computing cores and a peak performance of 70 TFLOPS.
